Hayti man appears in court for child molestation

HAYTI, MO (KAIT) - The Hayti man arrested for child molestation appeared in court on Monday.

According to Chief Paul Sheckell of the Hayti Police Department, Joseph L. Adams, Jr., 17, was arrested early Friday morning for child molestation.

Adams is set to appear in court on January 6 at 10 a.m. for a counsel status hearing.

Sheckell said the victim's family came to police on Nov. 26 and reported the incident. A warrant for Adams' arrest was issued Thursday, December 19. He was arrested early Friday morning.

Police have not issued details about the incident, including the age or gender of the victim.

Sheckell said the investigation is ongoing.

Adams was taken to the Pemiscot County Justice Center, where he was given a $50,000 bond.
