Weaver PD charge boyfriend in woman's shooting death

Weaver Police say they have charged a man with his girlfriend's murder.

Chief Wayne Bush says that officers responded to a call in the 7900 block of McClellan Boulevard Thursday evening at 8:56 p.m. They found 20-year-old Elizabeth Lauren Hartnett suffering from a gun shot wound to her chest.

Hartnett was was taken to the hospital whree she was later pronounced dead.

Police learned that Hartnett was scene with two men during the shooting. One male was detained at the scene and questioned. The other man, identified as John Denver Pegg, 22, left the scene before officers arrived.

Police learned that Pegg was Hartnett's boyfriend. Pegg was apprehended by the Clay County Sheriff's Office and Drug Task Force personnel on an unrelated arrest warrant. He was questioned in Hartnett's death and has now been charged with murder.

Pegg is being held in the Clay County Jail on the unrelated charges and once he is released from there he will be transferred to the Calhoun County Jail.

He will be held on a $100,000 bond and a preliminary hearing has been set for Feb. 10, 2014.
