Arrest made in connection to Smyrna shooting

SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting in Smyrna.

The Smyrna Police Department was called to the scene of a car crash near the intersection of Sam Ridley Parkway and I-24 on Dec. 20.

Responding officers discovered a man inside the vehicle had been shot and was being taken to the hospital by a friend for treatment.

Police say 20-year-old Pierre Burns was shot in the parking lot of the Deerfield Inn on Courier Place.

Burns was taken to the hospital and has since been treated and released.

Jeremy Rivers, 26, has been charged with especially aggravated robbery.

Bond for Rivers has been set at $100,000. A court date has been set for Jan. 6.

The Smyrna Police Department says they are still investigating this case and others could be charged in connection to the incident.
