KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A collision has caused Interstate 435 to Interstate 49 to temporarily close and sent one woman to the hospital with critical injuries.

The wreck happened just before 11:30 a.m.

Officials say the car was southbound on I-435 and changing lanes to prepare to exit toward eastbound Interstate 470 when the driver lost control. The car fish-tailed and hit a guard rail.

Police said after the fire department arrived but before officers were on scene, the male driver ran from the accident scene and they are still looking for him.

Emergency crews on scene used CPR to restore the female passenger's pulse and she was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The exit was temporarily closed from I-435 southbound to I-49 southbound and drivers were advised to use an alternate route until they cleared the scene.
