Police, SWAT block neighborhood

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond and Henrico police attempted to serve a search warrant at a home on Conway St. and Laburnum Ave. in Henrico that turned into a standoff that lasted for several hours.

Richmond police tells us this is related to a deadly shooting early this morning in the city's east end.  A black female, believed to be in her 20's, was found shot in the 2700 block of the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike.  She was taken to VCU Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Richmond police say they went to the home on Conway St. looking for evidence and that Henrico police assisted in serving the warrant.

Thomas Green fought back tears as he watched from across the street as several police officers and a SWAT team close in on a home where he says his sister was possibly shot. Green also told us that the home belong to the mother of his sister's boyfriend and children's father.

"She was a good woman man just doing the right thing," Thomas Green said.

Thomas says his sister was shot last night and taken to this wooded area off the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. Richmond Police have yet to confirm that the women they found in the area just after 2 this morning is Thomas sister.

They came across a women believed to be in her 20s suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to VCU Medical Center and later died. Thomas says his heart is with his niece and nephew who seemingly will now have to grow up without either one of their parents.

"I've seen my little niece I haven't seen my nephew yet but I couldn't even tell her the situation. Its hard. How can you explain that to a four year old, you wouldn't want to go home and explain something like that to your four year old," Green said.

Police are still working this investigation and ask that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers. That number is 804-780-1000.
