RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico man surrendered to police Sunday in connection with an earlier homicide and standoff.

Corenzo Hill, 30, faces abduction and weapons charges in connection with the shooting death of a woman in the 2700 block of the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike early Sunday. The victim, Sheena Green, 26, was taken to VCU Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Relatives say she was Hill's girlfriend and mother to his two children.

Additional charges against Hill are pending, according to Richmond Police.

Family and friends say an argument between Green and Hill ultimately led to her death. Domestic violence expert Angela Verdery says those type of incidents are more common during the holidays.

"The holiday season can often be a stressful time so they can make a situation that was already difficult even more difficult," Verdery said.

Ezaddin Alshami owns the Royal Mart near Hill's home on Conway Street. He says he knows both Green and Hill and they were both good people. He would have never suspected this type of behavior.

"I know the guy for the longest time. He's a very quite guy. His girl comes in here all the time. You just never know that something like this would happen," Alshami said.

There is hope and help. Verdery works with Safe Harbor, a haven for victims of domestic violence. She says the holidays can stir up a whirlwind of emotions.

"You get a lot of people hanging out together and old wounds may reopen and that can be really painful," Verdery said.

This is the 37th homicide in the city so far this year.

Police are still working this investigation and ask that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers. That number is 804-780-1000.
