The hunt is on for bold vandals who left a big mess in the Battlefield Green subdivision of Hanover County. There are slashed tires, cars destroyed, and holiday decorations shattered to pieces.

Investigators say there are at least 50 victims of vandalism in the community in an apparent weekend prank, but no one in the neighborhood is laughing.

"Because they're mean," said 5-year-old Sucie Henderson.

She isn't taking too kindly to whoever paid her family a visit, as she points to Christmas lights that hung from the roof that are now on the ground. Her and her little brother's bench is now ripped and their parents' truck and car are damaged too.

"I was mad, because this is our stuff. This is our transportation. [We're] trying to figure out how we're going to get to places and get the trucks fixed, because it has two tires that are flat," said Jill Henderson.

The vandals didn't stop there.

"Wires, broken bulbs, twisted decorations," Joann Johnson recounts the destruction to her property. She lives a block down from the Hendersons. The vandals cut the plugs off her electronic Christmas display.

"We found some of them across the street on the neighbor's car, strewn across the yard, in the street," she explains.

Her husband spent Sunday re-assembling the display.

"He said he wasn't going to let them get the best of us," Johnson said.

But some of the items were too damaged to keep. Monday, tow trucks were on hand helping neighbors haul away their vehicles. In some cases, even the side mirrors are knocked off.

"My daughter's Honda has two tires slashed, along with the broken mirror on the passenger's side," said Leon Smith.

They also slashed the tires on Smith's wife's car and his work truck.

"Whoever did this probably doesn't understand that responsibility of what it costs to have these things replaced," he said.

"[It's] someone without a lot of conscience," Henderson said.

As officers try to get to the bottom of this, they are looking for any tips to help crack the case. If you know anything or saw anything, call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

Investigators are going door to door looking for information that could point them to whoever's responsible. They're also increasing patrols in the area.
