MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) -

Mt. Juliet police say they have located the person of interest who approached an 8-year-old girl and reportedly asked her to get into his car.

Officers were called about 3 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of Ridgeview Preserve Drive, where the girl's mother said a man drove up and began talking with the girl while she was playing outside.

The mom saw the car near her daughter and yelled for the girl to get away from the man. As the man drove away, police said, he yelled to the mom that her daughter did the "right thing."

Police said the man saw the story on the news, realized he was the one they were looking for and then he called police.

After speaking with the man, police said there will not be any criminal charges, and they said the situation was a "misinterpretation of the subject's intentions."

Still, officers said you can never warn your children enough about the importance of avoiding strangers.

"If a child is possibly forced by this person to get in a car or grabbed, then the child needs to do everything he or she can to get away," said Mt. Juliet Police Sgt. Tyler Chandler. "Scream, draw attention to themselves and run away, and definitely talk to an adult."
