Bootheel rape case continued to August

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) – A Hayti man charged with rape had his court case continued to later this summer.

According to court documents, a judge continued 32-year-old William Cherry's case to August 19.

Caruthersville Police tell Region 8 News, Cherry had an active warrant out for his arrest through the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office in December 2013.

In a news release, police said the warrant listed the following charges for his arrest:

  • Forcible rape
  • Child molestation to the 1st degree
  • Statutory rape 1st degree
  • Felonious restraint
  • Armed criminal action

Cherry was taken to the Pemiscot Justice Center. He bonded out in March.
