JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man faces theft charges after police say he stole thousands of dollars from his employer.

According to the initial police report, 57-year-old Harry Hitt was arrested Thursday after he confessed to stealing $3,500 from Home Depot, 711 W. Parker Road.

An asset protection manager for the store traveled from North Little Rock to internally investigate the theft after noticing the registers that were short had the same employee in common.

When confronted, Hitt reportedly admitted he had been taking money from the registers when he was at work.

In a written statement to the store, Hitt claimed he stole $700 during the month of September, $800 in October and November and $1,200 in December, Officer David McDaniel stated in his report.

Hitt also reportedly admitted to stealing 2 tape measures and a pair of Grease Monkey gloves, valued at $40.

Hitt was arrested for theft greater than $1,000 but less than $5,000.  He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing.
