SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

A Pinal County woman is facing charges after shooting her husband because she reportedly thought he was a burglar breaking into their vehicle.

Melisah Havens, 34, of San Tan Valley told police she shot her 35-year-old husband Friday night because she thought he was an intruder breaking into their car parked outside of their home, according to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, Havens was kneeling over her husband who was laying face down in the driveway with gunshot wounds to the chest and right hand.

Havens told deputies her husband had taken her car keys to go get milk, according to Sheriff Paul Babeu.

The couple's three children, ages 12, 10 and 2, were home at the time of the shooting.

PCSO said the victim was transported by air ambulance to a Phoenix area trauma hospital where he had surgery and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Havens was booked into the Pinal County Jail for one count of domestic violence with a deadly weapon.

"Once the victim is able to talk, detectives will interview him to try and learn more about what occurred," Babeu said.

Babeu said PCSO has responded to domestic violence calls at the home before.

The three children have been turned over to Child Protective Services.
