Douglas makes roadway improvements

Posted: Updated:
COFFEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A major Douglas roadway has seen changes that city officials say will improve daily traffic flow.

The traffic signal at state Route 158 in Douglas was removed December 12th and set to a flashing light.

The Georgia Department of Transportation created right turning lanes to help with visibility and reduce speed through the intersection.

City officials say the changes come after complaints the light caused back-ups during busy times of the day.

"We ask the Georgia DOT  to help us with that. So their engineers came in a designed a new turning lane for us off of state route 158 onto Manila Ave and College Ave. And we just feel like it will help traffic go through that part of the city more expeditiously. We just want the people to be positive about to not get frustrated with it. Give it time to work," said Mayor James Dennis.

The flashing light will be removed in March.
