From the Southeastern Conference

Tennessee's Jordan McRae, a 6-foot-6, 185-pound senior guard from Midway, Ga., was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, 3.5 assists and three rebounds in wins against Virginia and Tusculum. He had what head coach Cuonzo Martin called the best defensive game of his career in UT's convincing home win over Virginia, limiting the Cavs' top scorer to just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting. McRae made 3-of-4 tries from 3-point range and was also a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. He tied his career-high with five assists while committing zero turnovers. He followed up his career night with a team-best 19 points in UT's win over Tusculum College Saturday.

Arkansas' Bobby Portis, a 6-foot-10, 242-pound freshman forward from Little Rock, Ark., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after recording his second career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists, three blocks and two steals against Texas-San Antonio. In the midst of going a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, Portis extended his double figure scoring streak to nine games, the longest streak by a Razorback this season. Portis has made his last 20 shots from inside the three-point line.
