Highway Department bundles up to work in frigid temps

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Most people got to stay inside with the heat during the below freezing temperatures, but there are some who had to work out in that frigid air.

The Arkansas Highway Transportation Department was hard at work on Monday. Crews we talked to said they have their own secrets to staying warm and safe.

Ricky Hale, a crew leader for AHTD said they do what they have to in order to get the job done.

"If you get real, real cold then get in the truck and try to warm up a minute in between pot holes and stuff," said Hale. "Warm up and dress warmly and stay out of the cold as best you can, but we've got a job to do.

Hale also said they are used to working in the cold temperatures and were bundled up with coveralls and thick gloves.
