Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Nikica Dawson has a smile on her face for a reason. She got a ticket out of town, headed for California. She is one of the few getting out of Cleveland and the frigid temperatures Monday night.

"Boarding pass. People are going to hate me. I kind of checked in a couple hours before coming here and you know for me it's like you're going, You're going. I'm shocked to find out only California is flying right now," says Nikica Dawson.

Hundreds of flights in and out of Cleveland were canceled Monday.

At least 50% of United flights were a "no go" mostly to and from Chicago and Cleveland.

Several delays were also on the board.

Cliff Carey drove more than five hours from Syracuse to Cleveland just to stand in the re booking line at Hopkins hoping to get on a flight to Las Vegas.

"We did get some confirmed seats on the 8:00 a.m. flight. So we just showed up after five hours to see if I can't get onto an earlier flight," says Cliff Carey.

Dana Moore's son is in the military hoping heading back to San Diego. A day later than planned.

"I hope. I hope. I don't want to have to travel up here again," says Dana Moore.

As for Nikica, she says she'll miss her family, but, not the cold conditions in Cleveland.

"I don't miss digging my car out anymore so I'm kinda glad to be going back to warmer weather," says Dawson.

Passenger Cliff Carey who was hoping to get out of Cleveland tomorrow morning. He's actually flying standby out on a flight tonight.
