COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A woman is in the hospital following an early morning car accident. She is in serious condition after police say her car hit a light pole and then crashed into a tree on St. Mary's Rd.

A Columbus Police officer was driving down St. Mary's road near Valley Crest Dr. when he noticed a car face down in a ditch. The driver was trapped inside of the vehicle.

They are not sure if weather played a role in this accident. It is not known how long she was trapped in the vehicle.

That area of St. Mary's Road was shut down for more than 2 hours while police investigated how the woman crashed her vehicle.

This accident is still under investigation. Updates will be provided as they become available.
