ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Frosty conditions are turning any shallow standing water to ice, and causing problems for Southwest Georgia water systems.

What was a water puddle a day ago is now a pile of shattered ice on Roosevelt Avenue.

Albany plumbers say they've been overrun with calls since sub-freezing temperatures moved in last night.

Now, they're urging you to be prepared so you can avoid serious complications.   They say pipes need to be covered or insulated.

They recommend dripping your system, as running water doesn't freeze.  They also urge homeowners to keep an eye on water meters to make sure they're not unknowingly pulling water, which could be a sign of a ruptured pipe.

WALB News Ten's Devin Knight will bring you more from plumbers later tonight on WALB.
