SCMPD: one man in custody in Thackery Place shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police detectives have a suspect in custody in connection with a shooting that left one man in the hospital in critical condition Sunday afternoon.

Eugene Mitchell, 23, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center by a friend after the 2:17 p.m. shooting on Sunday on Thackery Place.

Central Precinct officers responded to the area when they were told a gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital by a private vehicle. Residents flagged down arriving officers to point out the crime scene.

Alfonso Warner, 28, turned himself in to Metro Police Sunday after Islands Precinct Patrol officers stopped his gold Dodge Charger.

    According to the National Weather Service, the storm that went through Clay County Saturday night was an EF-2 tornado that brought 115 mph winds and damaged multiple homes in the county.
