Early voting begins for vacant state Senate seat

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT)-  Early voting begins to fill a vacant state Senate seat from Northeast Arkansas.

Democrat Steve Rockwell and Republican John Cooper are vying for the District 21 state Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of former Senator Paul Bookout amid ethics violations.

Region 8 residents headed to the Craighead County Election Annex, but there's some things you need to know before you cast your vote. Craighead County Clerk Kade Holliday said, "you will be required by law to have a photographic ID. So, a driver's license, passport... Something along those lines with a picture on it. That way, the poll worker will be able to identify who you are to allow you to vote."

The election is scheduled for January 14th. Voting will take place through Friday, as well as on Monday.
