More frigid temperatures, but Carolinas will soon begin to thaw

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As people wake up Wednesday, they will once again feel frigid temperatures in the single digits and teens.

Unlike Tuesday, we should see temperatures rebound quickly through the day. Highs in the Upstate will reach 40, while the mountains will get into the mid 30s.

With the warming temperatures, officials warn that pipes that have been frozen may thaw and cause some flooding issues. Plumbers and firefighters across the area were out on many calls Tuesday for similar troubles.

Drivers are also urged to use caution when prepping their cars before hitting the road amid the frigid weather. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said they were called to assist more than 600 stranded drivers statewide who had car troubles Tuesday.

But as the area starts to thaw out, drivers and homeowners may have several days of a reprieve from the extreme cold.

Thursday will have even warmer temperatures, as highs get into the mid 40s for the Upstate and around 40 in the mountains. Showers will be possible Thursday into Friday.

By the weekend, rain will go from scattered and light to heavy and widespread. Saturday evening will get some soaking rain, with 1 to 2 inches possible.
