Pit bull ordinance vote scheduled for Monday

Posted: Updated:

Albany city commissioners are scheduled to vote Monday on a tough new pit bull ordinance.      Monday they discussed the proposal with the city attorney. It would require owners to register their pit bulls and have liability insurance coverage.

It also outlines what type of enclosures pit bulls must be kept it. The commission gave the public a chance to raise concerns today before the scheduled vote.

"Pit bulls pose a serious threat to the general public; we need an ordinance where we can better respond so we can better respond to that problem with that ordinance," said Nathan Davis, City Attorney.

City Attorney Nathan Davis says commissioners asked him to draft the ordinance after a couple of pit bull attacks last year.
