Man shoots flare gun at police, arrested after standoff

AUGUSTA, AR (KAIT) – A Woodruff County man is in jail following a standoff which involved Arkansas State Police and a flare gun.

According to Bill Sadler with Arkansas State Police, the standoff began Tuesday around 3 p.m. in Augusta at 1008 N. 13th Street.

Troopers were called to the scene after Eric D. Bottoms, 32, of Augusta reportedly fired a flare gun at an Augusta police officer.

The State Police SWAT team was activated an hour later and responded.

Sadler said troopers began speaking with Bottoms around 9:30 p.m. He then surrendered to police at about 11 p.m.

Bottoms was charged with aggravated assault and was first taken to the Woodruff County Jail before being transferred to the White County Jail.
