Minor earthquake shakes Mississippi County Sunday

MANILA, AR (KAIT) - A minor earthquake shook Mississippi County Sunday at 6:20am. The U.S. Geological Survey put the quake at 2.7 magnitude and centered it near Manila, Arkansas.

No damage has been reported, but several people did report to the USGS they felt the tremor. If you felt the earthquake tell the USGS by clicking here.

The earthquake is one of hundreds of small tremors that occur along the New Madrid Seismic Zone that stretches from southern Illinois to northeast Arkansas. A series of earthquakes on 1811-12 in the area were among the most severe in U.S. history. This small earthquake is one of dozens large enough to be felt each year.
