Metro investigators search for clues after man found shot in street

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Metro police responded to a shooting overnight at the corner of East 34th Street and Waters Avenue in Savannah.

Police say one man was found lying in the road with a gunshot wound around 2 a.m. Wednesday. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

Fire crews were also called out due to a Hazmat clean-up situation, which has since been cleaned and cleared by officials.

WTOC spoke with Savannah-Chatham Metro's Julian Miller about what they found when they arrived at the scene.

"We arrived to find a black male in the street, looks to be in his late 20s to early 30s. He has been transported to Memorial with potentially life-threatening wounds, and we're in the process now of trying to pull information together," said Miller.

Police say there were several witnesses around when the shooting occurred and they are questioning each one. As far as a suspect, investigators say they are currently gathering evidence and have no one in custody. They say at this time they are not sure if it was one shooter or multiple shooters.

Police ask that if you know anything about the shooting, call Crimestoppers at 912.234.2020 or the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Dept.
