BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Jeff Grimes, who served as offensive line coach at Auburn when the Tigers won the 2010 national title, has been named offensive line coach and running game coordinator at LSU, head coach Les Miles announced on Tuesday.

"Jeff comes to our staff with great experience and as coach who is very familiar with the SEC," Miles said. "He helped Auburn win a national title in 2010 and has been part of some very successful programs.

"He's a tremendous technician and will do a great job teaching our offensive line. He has a track record of putting guys in the NFL and producing outstanding offensive linemen. He's a great addition to the staff and I'm looking forward to working with him for many years."

Grimes replaces Greg Studrawa who left the university to pursue new opportunities.

Grimes comes to Baton Rouge from Virginia Tech where he was in charge of the offensive line for one season.

The offensive line coach is the first coach to spend only one season on Frank Beamer's staff since Gary Tranquill served as the team's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 1994.

In Auburn's 2010 championship season, he coached an offensive line that set school records for total yards of offense (6,989) and points (577) for a second consecutive season.

He also has coaching stops at Colorado, BYU, Arizona State and Boise State.

Grimes was born in Garland, Texas. He graduated from UTEP in 1991 and received a master's in education administration from Texas A&M in 1997.

He played football at the University of Texas-El Paso from 1987-1990.

Grimes brings with him a reputation as a very good high school recruiter.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
