Suspect injures hand while fleeing from police

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with an alleged carjacking and assault of a law enforcement officer, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Thursday.

Brian A. Myers, 25, faces first-degree robbery, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed criminal action.

According to court records, Myers was involved in a robbery/carjacking days earlier where he is accused of robbing an acquaintance, pulling a silver revolver.

Officials said an investigation led police to an apartment at East Linwood Boulevard and Garfield Avenue. Police arranged to meet him outside a building, but when a police officer pulled in front of the address, Myers ran out the back door and hopped a fence.

During the chase, Myers raised a gun toward the officer, who fired a shot at Myers, who then fell to the ground. Other police officers at the scene said they saw the chase and found a gun near where Myers was taken into custody.

Myers was not struck by the bullet but injured his hand while jumping over the fence.

Prosecutors requested that his bond be set at $250,000.
