BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) – In the film Shawshank Redemption, convict Andy Dufresne hid an escape route to freedom behind a poster of Raquel Welch.

Instead of a tunnel, a hole inside a Region 8 inmate's jail cell hid a pipe wrench, a shank, even the lock to his door.

According to the initial incident report from the Independence County Sheriff's Department, the hole was discovered Friday, Jan. 10, during a search of Jeremiah Childers' jail cell.

Jailers reportedly first noticed a hole in the cell window.

Upon closer inspection a jailer spotted a small piece of cardboard near the air vent.

Inside the vent they discovered a hole large enough for a hand to get through.

When jailers reached inside they reportedly found "a shampoo bottle and a pair of pliers…multiple strands of wire, a pad lock and the lock housing to the door, the lock to the door, tattoo guns, a pipe wrench and a shank."

Following the cell search, jailers moved Childers to a padded cell.

According to the report, a few minutes later a jailer noticed Childers removing the padding and wood from the wall.

Childers, 26, of Batesville is charged with felony criminal mischief.
