PARAGOULD, AR  (KAIT) – A Greene County man has been charged with murder in the death of his three-year old son. According to court documents, Michael J. Carter, 23, of Fontaine was holding a .45 caliber pistol that went off, striking Logan Carter in the head on January 11.

The incident happened at Carter's home on County Road 336.

Shortly after the shooting, Greene County Sheriff Dan Langston told Region 8 News the child's mother and brother were at home at the time.

On Monday. Carter plead not guilty in court. He was assigned a new court date.

The child was pronounced dead at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Langston said the shooting was ruled accidental before the case was handed to Deputy Prosecutor Kimberly Dale.

Carter was arrested January 17.

Carter's bond was set at $1,000,000. He is due back in court next week in Greene County Circuit Court.
