(WMC-TV) - Memphis police officers say they found 405.11 pounds of marijuana hidden in crates of rotten limes as they were being unloaded from a tractor-trailer with a forklift.

Police received a call just after 10 a.m. Friday alerting them to a suspicious person near the Welcome Inn on Summer Avenue. The inn manager called police.

"We figured they were going to unload something because they did it twice before, but at the time the restaurant was open," said manager Marion Wright describing a restaurant that closed five months ago. "I knew they were kind of suspicious ... One of the reasons why we called."

When police arrived to the scene, they say they saw several people unloading a tractor-trailer with a forklift. Upon seeing the officers, one man ran to his vehicle and drove off. The truck driver was taken into custody.

Officers say the two men were unloading what appeared to be crates of rotten limes, but inside the crates they found 14 individually wrapped bundles of marijuana, weighing 405 pounds.

Police canines help sniff out the $600,000 worth of drugs.

Truck driver Kenneth Shelton, 52, is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to manufacture/deliver/sell. Cauthen Prentis, 38, is the man police say ran from the scene. He was arrested and faces the same charge.
