Spencer Reaves has 33 points as Cedar Ridge wins Lyon boys title

BATESVILLE, Ark. (LyonScots.com) – It took six weeks to complete because of inclement weather and scheduling delays, but the boys' champion of the Lyon College-Mark Martin Automotive High School Invitational is Cedar Ridge, after the Timberwolves used 33 points from senior Spencer Reaves in a thrilling 58-53 title game Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd in James C. Becknell Gymnasium.
Reaves scored 13 points in the first half, but the Timberwolves trailed by four, 28-24. He then exploded in the final 16 minutes, scoring 20 points and leading his team to the title. For his efforts, Reaves was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Other players named to the all-tournament squad included Cole Crabtree of Cedar Ridge, Clark Brewington and Nick Smith of Pocahontas, Avery Johnson of Highland and Deshawn Lee of Riverview.
In addition to the scoring output by Reaves, Crabtree scored 11 first-half points, as the senior finished with 16. Junior Nate Easley dropped in six points and sophomore Kegan Harrison scored three.
Smith paced Pocahontas, as the junior scored 16 points. Brewington (junior) finished with 13, junior Tristen Privett added eight points, sophomore Corey Kaczmarski dropped in seven, senior Keith Smith chipped in five and senior Jackson Coates scored four.
The opening period was close from the opening tip to the buzzer as the ‘Wolves led 15-14. But the Redskins came out quickly in the second quarter, outscored Cedar Ridge 14-9, and led 28-24 at the break.
The third quarter was the difference in the game, as the Redskins got into foul trouble and the Timberwolves had the upper hand of 17-7 scoring to take a 41-35 advantage. Three Pocahontas players fouled out in the final period and the Timberwolves held on for the victory.
