ATLANTA, GA - Health officials are urging the public to stay patient...even as some states are reporting a shortage of flu shots for their high-risk populations.
Dr. Mitchell Cohen of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta says some parts of the country may not have their supply of flu shots yet. But he says those shipments are on the way.
Cohen declined to say which states are running low on shots.
The vaccine shortage began earlier this month, when British regulators halted shipments from a company sending 48 million shots to the U.S.
Some batches of the vaccine from that company were contaminated with a worrisome strain of bacteria. Cohen said the CDC has been working closely with state officials to identify people who are most in need of the vaccine.
