Cheyenne Childers named AMC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Walnut Ridge, Ark (WBCEagles.com) – Cheyenne Childers has had a remarkable two weeks playing for the Williams Baptist College Lady Eagles basketball team. On Monday, the American Midwest Conference announced the senior forward as the conference's player of the week.
The Cave City native scored 27 points against the second ranked team in the NAIA, Freed–Hardeman University, before scoring a career high 34 points against Mid–Continent University. Childers also collected a total of 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals during the week.
More impressively, Childers shot a stunning 77 percent from the field, including 57 percent from 3–point range. The senior was also a perfect 13–for–13 from the free throw line.
"Cheyenne has had two weeks of exceptional play. Her shooting percentage is off the charts," said Head Coach Carol Halford.
Over the past six contests, Childers has eclipsed 1,000 career points and averaged 24.7 points per game, while shooting 66 percent from the floor and 59 percent from beyond the arc. Her average has risen from 11.8 to 16.5.
Williams is 10-7 overall and 6-5 in the AMC. Its next scheduled match is against the Pirates of Park University on January 30th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., in Parkville, Mo.
