COLUMBIA, Mo. (LyonScots.com) – After posting his second collegiate double-double for the Lyon College men's basketball team and collecting a near personal best 10 rebounds, Scots senior Jordan Layrock has been named the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games play between Jan. 20-26, the league office reported on Monday.
Layrock, a 6-6 post player from Paragould, Ark., led Lyon to a win in its only game of the week, a 73-55 victory over AMC foe Mid-Continent University on Thursday in Batesville. The victory was the Scots' fourth straight win and sixth in their last eight contests, as Lyon continues to solidify is hold on third place in the conference. After a 2-8 start, Lyon is now 8-11 on the season and 7-2 in AMC play.
Layrock scored 28 points and hauled in double-digit boards, to go with three blocked shots, as he played the entire 40 minutes of the victory.
He connected on 8-of-11 (72.7%) of his field goals and 12-of-16 (75%) from the line in the game. His 10 rebounds was only second to his total of 11 last season against Benedictine University at Springfield (Ill.) His nine defensive rebounds was a career high.
Layrock is currently ranked 14th national in total blocks (29), 17th in blocks per game (1.5), 38th in defensive rebounds per game (5.1) and 40th in field goal percentage (50.5%).
The Scots will be involved in two key AMC road matchups this week as they travel to St. Louis on Thursday to take on Harris-Stowe State University (2-18, 2-8 AMC) at 7:30 p.m., before heading to Parkville, Mo. on Saturday to battle the fourth-place Park Pirates (8-8, 6-3 AMC) at 4 p.m.
