Three Brave Young Girls Survive Terrifying Tornado

October 20, 2004--Posted at 11:30 p.m. CDT

COOTER--Three young girls were together, holding each other in a closet, as a tornado ripped through homes in Cooter, Missouri on  Monday.

Katie Murphy, 10, Amanda Trammel, 8, and Abby Trammel, 10, couldn't believe what was happening.

"I thought it was a dream, because it didn't feel real. It happened so fast,"said Amanda Trammel.

The girls did suffer some deep cuts from the debris.

They were taken to the hospital, and released shortly after.

While the storm is over, the healing process is just beginning.

It's hard to sleep at night the girls say, but they are hopeful time will ease the physical and emotional stress.

"Oh my gosh we're alive. I was thinking is everyone else all right. I wasn't really thinking about myself,"said Murphy.

Living through the tornado is a memory these girls say will be with them forever.

"Oh my gosh, I thought it was the end of my life. It really scared me,"said Amanda Trammel.
