JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Police say a Jonesboro man was in the act of downloading child porn when they served a search warrant on him for that very offense.

Jeremy Kersey, 42, of Jonesboro is charged with viewing and distributing child pornography.  He is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police arrested Kersey on Thursday following a search of his home in the 1800-block of Broadmoor.

According to court documents, when officers entered the home they saw Kersey sitting at a table "actively downloading and distributing child pornography" on his laptop.

Officers reported seeing "several sexually explicit images of young children on the laptop," the affidavit stated.

In addition to the child pornography, officers reportedly also found a Ruger rifle and ammunition in Kersey's bedroom.

Police arrested Kersey at the scene.

Court documents show he was read his Miranda rights and signed a rights form.

During questioning, Kersey told detectives he was "viewing and distributing child pornography when officers entered the home," the affidavit stated.

Kersey also reportedly told police the weapon belonged to him.

On Friday, Kersey appeared in District Court where Judge Curt Huckaby set his bond at $1 million.

Kersey is currently being held in the Craighead County Detention Center awaiting his next court appearance on February 28.
