Kyria Seymour of Jonesboro died Saturday, April 19, at LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN. A memorial fund has been created for an 11-year-old girl who died after she became trapped beneath a pipe in a water-filled ditch for 20 minutes.

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - A Paragould man pleads guilty to raping two young girls.

According to Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District of Arkansas, the investigation into 33-year-old Edward Howerton began in 2012.

The joint investigation involved Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children and the Paragould Police Department.

According to Ellington, an 11-year-old victim told investigators that Howerton had abused her since she was 7 years old. Both victims were under the age of 13.

Howerton was sentenced to two 30-year terms in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Those terms will be served consecutively.

"There is no place in our community for sexual predators like Edward Howerton," Ellington said. "If one chooses to violate the innocence of children, just like Mr. Howerton, they will pay the consequences."

Ellington praised law enforcement for their hard work in the case.

"Today's plea would not have been possible without the solid police work and tireless efforts of the CACD, Det. Sgt.Thomas and Det. Sgt. Snyder."
