Paragould man gets 60 years in prison for rape

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - A Paragould manpleads guilty to raping two young girls.

According to Scott Ellington,Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District of Arkansas, theinvestigation into 33-year-old Edward Howerton began in 2012.

The joint investigation involvedArkansas State Police Crimes Against Children and the Paragould PoliceDepartment.

According to Ellington, an 11-year-oldvictim told investigators that Howerton had abused her since she was 7 yearsold. Both victims were under the age of 13.

Howerton was sentenced to two 30-yearterms in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Those terms will be servedconsecutively.

"There is no place in ourcommunity for sexual predators like Edward Howerton," Ellington said."If one chooses to violate the innocence of children, just like Mr.Howerton, they will pay the consequences."

Ellington praised law enforcement fortheir hard work in the case.

"Today's plea would not have been possible withoutthe solid police work and tireless efforts of the CACD, Det. Sgt.Thomas andDet. Sgt. Snyder."
