Authorities search for missing aircraft in AR

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Searchers are trying to find a missing Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot and airplane that failed to check in while patrolling the western part of the state.

Forestry Commission spokeswoman Adriane Barnes says the pilot was searching for wildfires when he failed to check in as scheduled Friday. Barnes says the pilot had taken off after noon and had checked in every 30 minutes as normal - but was last heard from at 1:11 p.m.

She said the Forestry Commission, U.S. Forest Service and local law enforcement are searching for the pilot and plane.

Barnes said the commission has been making daily flights in search of wildfires because of the high fire danger across Arkansas.

Barnes wouldn't disclose the pilot's name or where the aircraft took off.
