Community raises money for injured Lindale firefighter

LINDALE, TX (KLTV) -

Fire Departments and members of the community worked together Saturday to help one of their own who is still fighting for his life in a Dallas Hospital.

On January 17th, Lindale Firefighter Joe Yeakley was seriously injured after a roof collapsed on him at an early morning house fire. Yeakley is being treated for burns and is currently in critical condition.

Saturday more than a dozen local fire departments participated in a "Fill the Helmet" donation drive to raise money for Yeakley and his family. Firefighters shared Yeakley's story with the drivers who wanted to help. They say the generosity shown by everyone, especially people from out of town, is heartwarming.

Firefighters raised over $30-thousand dollars. The money raised during Saturday's helmet drive will go directly to the Yeakley family to help cover Joe's medical costs. If you would like to make a donation to the Yeakley family, you can do that at any Texas Bank and Trust.
