Car crashes through door of social security building

(WMC-TV) - A clean-up crew at the Social Security Administration building on South Third Street worked to vacuum broken glass on Monday. A motorist attempting to park at the South Memphis office accidentally crashed into the front door.

Memphis Police Department initially confirmed there was a break-in at the social security office, but upon investigating, they determined the crash was an accident.

According to the police report, David Pruit was at the building to find out what time it opened. When he got out of the car, he did not put the vehicle in park. When Pruit tried to stop the car, instead of hitting the break, he mistakenly hit the accelerator; this damaged the front door of the building.

Pruit was cited for striking a fixed object and no insurance. Meanwhile, others were left to fend for themselves.

"I'm thinking about where the next Social Security office is. I'm still trying to get business taken care of,' said military veteran, Eric Green.
