Dyersburg residents deal with ice after winter storm

(WMC-TV) - Mid-Southerners woke up to a chilly mixture of snow and ice in Dyersburg, Tenn. Monday morning.

Paul Alcozer, who is just one of many who woke up to wintry weather, used an ice scraper and a can of de-icer to get the gas cap cover open.

"It's froze up, there's water all inside," said Alcozer, whose car was parked overnight and when he came out in the morning, everything was covered in ice.

Roads were a challenge for Dyersburg residents, too. Everywhere you looked, people were slowing down and some even avoided driving altogether.

Alcozer learned his lesson parking outside. He says next time there is freezing rain in the forecast, he will make sure he parks in the garage.

Here is some advice for drivers expecting wintry weather:

- Keep plenty of gas in your car.

- Replace wipers and washer fluid.

- Check your car battery.

- Keep an emergency pack ready in your car.
