Temperatures expected to drop below freezing Tuesday night

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

This afternoon a few sprinkles may fall over the KCBD viewing area, but they will not bring measurable precipitation. A westerly breeze will help to break up some of the cloud cover, allowing some sunshine which will help warm Lubbock into the mid or upper 40s.

Afternoon temperatures will climb into the 50s west and southwest of Lubbock, but will remain in the 30s over the northeastern viewing area.

This evening cold air will surge back into the KCBD viewing area from the north and it will be very cold with wind chills near zero. As the cold air moves in tonight a few flurries will be possible, but measurable precipitation is not expected.

Wednesday morning patchy freezing fog may contribute to some slick spots on area roadways, mainly before sunrise. Tomorrow will be cloudy and very cold, with wind chills to minus 5 degrees. Data this afternoon indicates an increasing chance of measurable snowfall returning to the KCBD viewing area Wednesday evening with a chance of snow Wednesday night.

Thursday will be very cold with scattered snow showers and a chance of measurable snow.

Friday and Saturday are shaping up warmer and drier.
