LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - While Wednesday's ice storm knocked out power for some, the ice also knocked down many trees around Kentuckiana. Before dawn Wednesday morning, a tree came crashing through an apartment off Preston Highway.

Louisville photographer, Tyler Franklin saw the ice storm as the perfect opportunity to do something different.

"There is no client that's paying me to shoot this ice storm, but it's too beautiful to miss," said Franklin.

Franklin saw the ice as a rare opportunity, but what a winter storm makes beautiful can be a pain for others.

"I came out to get the newspaper, but I couldn't get by," said Louisville resident Bill Timmer.

Timmer had a tree down in his driveway. He gave arborist Tee Ray a call.

Ray said evergreens don't have the best root system and they see a lot of damage to pine trees. The ice can more than double or triple the weight of the limb.

"You kind of get a domino effect on pines," said Ray. "Usually a limb or two will break out at the top the weight gets heavier and heavier and takes out everything underneath of it."

For Ray, the goal is to always find a way to save the tree. But when they cannot, the limbs get recycled. He said it is always a good idea to call a professional to remove your tree.
