JONESBORO, AR - The St. Louis Cardinals advanced to the World Series Thursday night for the first time since 1987. A few Region 8 residents said they were surprised the National League Championship Series went to Game 7, after St. Louis went up two games to nothing against Houston, but were optimistic the Cards would pull out an ace to get the win.

"I'd love to see the Cardinals beat the Red Sox, even though a lot of people want to see the Red Sox win, but I think they can win it, and I think it's going to be a longer series; 6 maybe 7 games," said Tim Bundren, who grew up in Illinois near St. Louis, and often watched games at Busch Stadium with his family members while growing up.

B.J. Fort, another Cardinals fan, added, "They've got a shot to beat anybody in baseball with, you know, as solid as a lineup as they have, but Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez. That's a tough one-two punch, you know, for any team to go up against, but I definitely like their chances in the World Series."

The final score was 5 to 2. The Cardinals will face the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 Saturday night at Fenway Park.
