Arkansas State reports new cases of possible IRS fraud

Posted: Updated:

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University sent a notice to its employees Thursday afternoon warning of possible fraud.

According to the memo two Arkansas State employees may have been fraudulently claimed as dependents on another person's income tax return. These reports may or may not be related to a similar situation last year when dozens of employees reported similar fraud claims.

The university asked that any employees who receive a notice from the Internal Revenue Service of their tax returns being submitted inappropriately need to contact the school's human resources department immediately. The memo stated the school contacted the IRS about the issue.

In February 2013 a total of 150 ASU employees fell victim to fraudulent filing of federal tax returns. It's uncertain how the employees were targeted in those cases.
