KENNETT, MO (KAIT) – A southeast Missouri man accused of killing a three year old girl was in court Friday for a motions hearing. Attorneys for both parties argued some of the details ahead of the murder trial for Shawn Morgan of Senath. Morgan is set to go to trial in August.
Morgan is charged in the death of Breeann Rodriguez, who was found dead in a drainage ditch in 2011.
Shortly after her body was discovered, Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said he was pleased with the community support.
Searchers assisted police in looking for Rodriguez for several days before she was found.
Prosecutors argue that Morgan suffocated her with a black plastic bag before tossing her body in a drainage ditch 8 miles south of Senath after he found her playing in his backyard.
Another motions hearing is scheduled for February 27, 2014.
