A-State Women's Golf begins spring schedule at LeTriomphe Invitational

Competing in its first spring tournament this season, the Arkansas State women's golf team is in eighth place among 18 teams at the LeTriomphe College Invitational after shooting an opening-round 311 Sunday at the LeTriomphe Golf and Country Club.

A-State finished the three-day tournament's first 18 holes two strokes behind sixth place Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin, and the Red Wolves are also within nine strokes of second-place Houston Baptist.  Louisiana-Monroe posted a 298 Sunday to lead the tournament being hosted by McNeese State.

Arkansas State was led by junior Megan Garland, who carded a season-best 73 that put her in a tie for fifth place.  Garland will enter the second round just two strokes behind three players tied for first place.  Freshman Maci Arrington shot a 75 to join Garland among the top-10 leaders for the Red Wolves.

Also competing for Arkansas State, Abi Laker is tied for 54th place with an 81, Courtney Manning tied for 60th with an 82, Marie Couffignal tied for 67th with an 83 and Clara Tefteller tied for 84th with an 88.

The tournament's second round is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
