Groupon honors 'President' Alexander Hamilton?

Groupon offers many promotions, but this Presidents Day message may be taking things a little too far - by promoting one historical figure to presidential status.

Groupon kicked off their Presidents Day deal campaign by offering customers an ‘Alexander Hamilton' (or $10 off of $40 spent toward a local business purchase).

The deal on Groupon.com stated, "President Hamilton is best known for the fiscal sensibilities that led him to author economic policies, establish a national bank and control taxes." Groupon urged customers "to honor our money-minded commander-in-chief" by searching for deals on their website through Presidents Day weekend.

One problem though…Alexander Hamilton was never president. Hamilton, who is featured on the $10 bill, was considered one of the Founding Fathers, but he never held the position of commander-in-chief.

While he was never elected to the White House, Hamilton was the country's first Secretary of the Treasury. Maybe "Treasury Secretary Hamilton" was too much of a mouthful?
