(CNN) - It's President Barack Obama's sixth Presidents Day in office and his approval rating remains near the lowest of his presidency.

According to a CNN poll of polls compiled Monday, 42 percent of Americans think he is doing a good job, but 53 percent of Americans give Obama's performance a thumbs down.

The president's approval rating is up slightly from November and early December when it was at or near an all-time low in many national surveys.

But it's still far below where it stood a year ago, when 52 percent of Americans approved of the job he was doing.

Obama's approval rating dropped last year following a series of controversies, including the botched rollout of the government health care reform.
