LEACHVILLE, AR (KAIT)- Mrs. Nancy Spencer from Buffalo Island Central Junior High School has been selected as the February Teacher of the Month.

Spencer has worked in the district for 11 years but has been teaching for only 2 years. She teaches 7th and 8th grade English and says she has learned a lot from her students.

"You learn so much year to year and you have so different students and you have to adapt yourself to those students also."

Spencer said she knew she wanted to be a teacher in the 3rd grade when she moved from Paragould to California and realized that education is the common factor no matter where you live.

"She does her job and she does it very well," said Jayce Couch, an 8th grader in Spencer's class.

Spencer said technology has helped bridge the gap between her students.

"You can set them in front of this laptop and you can have a section just for them, you can play audio where others can read it," she said.

"She teaches us not to do bullying. She says it's very strong in her class and that we cant have that at all in her class," said 7th grader, Haddyn Hurst. "She cares a lot about us."

Spencer's students said she always make sure they are on the same page.

"She always explains thing and she doesn't leave anything mysterious in her directions, she is always point blank with you," said 7th grade student, Olivea Jett.

Spencer's students said they have learned a lot from their teacher.

"Don't be negative towards people, always be positive," Jett said.

"She makes sure that every kid has the same opportunity to learn even if you don't have the grades to do it," said Couch.

"She's equal to each student and she teaches us everything," said 8th grader, Andrew McFarlin.
